Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) marked National Sport Day with a slew of health and sports-related activities organised for its staff and their families at Nurses Club in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City (HBKMC).
Wearing T-shirts and hats with health awareness messages, staff and their families began the day by taking part in a walkathon around HBKMC. This was followed by basketball, lawn tennis, mini football and mini golf games for adults. Children celebrated the day playing on bouncy castles and enjoying a variety of board games.
HMC also organised health screenings such as blood pressure, diabetes and body mass index (BMI) checks as well as height and weight measurement.
Additional activities such as first aid demonstration offered staff practical tips on performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The nutrition department provided healthy eating advice.
Staff members and children also took time to write or draw a health message on a wall mural designed to commemorate the day. Face painting and drawing activities were other highlights.
Ali al-Khater, executive director, corporate communications department, thanked staff who participated in the Sport Day events, saying it demonstrated the integral role HMC is playing in encouraging its staff to lead a healthy life.
“I am glad that so many staff and their families came out and actively participated in our events on the occasion of Qatar National Sport Day. Being the principal public healthcare provider in Qatar, this participation further demonstrates our keenness and commitment to supporting Qatar’s vision of building a healthy society to meet the country’s growth and development goals as envisioned in the Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.
The Blood Donation Centre organised mobile donation campaigns at Aspire Zone and near the Sheraton Hotel Doha on the Corniche. Members of the public were encouraged to donate blood through the mobile donation units stationed at both venues from 8am to 8pm.
Sadika Ismail al-Mahmoudi, medical manager at the Blood Donation Centre, said staff were present to educate donors about the importance of donating blood, and to offer them general health advice and perform routine checks to ensure they were eligible to donate.
Aisha al-Khulaifi, head, corporate social responsibility at HMC, expressed her happiness at the success of the events. “I appreciate the participation of our staff and their families who have shown a keen interest in leading a healthy life and to join HMC in its efforts to encourage Qatari society to engage more in sports and physical activities,” she said.
