HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah held talks with senior officials of several countries on the sidelines of 51st Munich Security Conference yesterday.
Dr al-Attiyah met the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura.
They discussed the latest developments related to the Syrian crisis. The Foreign Minister underlined Qatar’s firm position towards finding a political solution to the crisis in order to preserve Syria’s unity and achieve the aspirations of its people.
The Foreign Minister also met the US Middle East peace envoy Frank Lowenstein and discussed latest political developments on the Palestinian arena.
The Foreign Minister said that the Israeli practices against religious sanctities especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the repression by the occupation forces of the Palestinians in the West Bank would obstruct efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region.
Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah also met Lebanon’s Prime Minister Tammam Salam.
The Lebanese prime minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for his constructive role on Arab, regional and international arenas.
Talks during the meeting covered bilateral relations and latest regional developments.
During his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Albania Dtmier Bocati Dr al-Attiyah discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them and exchanged views on topics of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Germany Abdulrahman bin Mohamed al-Khulaifi and members of the delegation accompanying the Foreign Minister.
The Foreign Affairs also met India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Kumar Doval.
Talks during the meeting focused on means of developing co-operation between Qatar and India in all areas.
They also exchanged views on topics of common interest.
The Foreign Minister also had a meeting with a number of youth leaders participating in Munich Security Conference.
Dr al-Attiyah addressed the participants and expressed his confidence that youth can find creative solutions to the challenges facing the world today. The participants expressed their keenness to know more about the State of Qatar and its increasingly prominent diplomatic role in international affairs.
He gave a brief overview of Qatar’s history and reviewed Qatar’s National Vision for the year 2030.
The Foreign Minister also discussed the progress of peace talks and the latest developments in Syria and Iraq.
Dr al-Attiyah also met the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduard Nalbandyan. They discussed bilateral relations and the means to enhance them.
On Friday HE al-Attiyah took part in a meeting of GCC Foreign Ministers and US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Talks during the meeting focused on ways of enhancing relations and co-operation between the GCC countries and the United States in political, economic and security areas.
They also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, mainly the peace process, the Syrian crisis and the situation in Yemen.
