Teach For Qatar (TFQ) is inviting the public to join in a variety of fun, yet educational, activities on its National Sport Day activities, which will be held from 9am to 10pm at Katara - the cultural village.
TFQ will host football competitions throughout the day at its space in Katara, on Tuesday. Matches will be played on a custom-made mat representing a chalkboard. TFQ will also host a series of games that combine the use of mental and physical strength to complete a task, with the aim of demonstrating how education and sports go hand-in-hand.
“The TFQ ethos is based on the belief that through high quality education individuals can become champions on and off the playing field, since the success of any individual in any field is based on similar values that we believe in, and try to instill in our students, namely, respect, perseverance, collaboration, leadership and excellence,” said Dana al-Marri, a TFQ Fellow, at Amna bint Wahb Independent School
for Girls.
With applications for the 2015-2017 Fellowship closing on April 1, TFQ continues to promote its two-year leadership development and teaching programme, and will also host an information booth at Katara on National Sport Day.
Founded by HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, TFQ is a local non-governmental organisation working to be part of the solution to the challenges faced by students in Qatar. It does this by reinvesting exceptionally talented leaders into the independent school system.
By providing its Fellows with the opportunity to guide and inspire the country’s future leaders inside the classroom, TFQ is actively seeking to promote the value of teaching in the society.
The TFQ Fellowship is designed to positively impact students in Qatar and by working with its partner schools it has identified English, Mathematics and Science as high priority subjects.
The second cohort of Fellows, like the first - who began their placements in September last year - will teach those subjects to 7th and 8th grade students.
