Car accident in Lusail area

At least two SUVs were involved in an accident late yesterday afternoon in the Lusail area on the North Road, on the way to the Lusail Multipurpose Hall, one of the venues of the ongoing 24th Men’s Handball World Championship. Though there were reports of more vehicles being involved in the accident, they could not be confirmed. Eyewitnesses said the entire area was cordoned off by the police and vehicles were diverted. There was more traffic on the highway on account of the championship as well as a live music performance by Pharrell Williams, a popular American singer, at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall after the match.

Confidence in Qatar’s ability to host Olympics

International Handball Federation President Hassan Moustafa has voiced his confidence in Qatar’s ability to host the Olympics in the near future, particularly after its success in staging the World Handball Championship.
For any country, Moustafa said yesterday in an interview with German news agency DPA, hosting a world tournament means that it laid down the foundations that it can rely on when organising other sports events, especially by using the facilities and technical capacities that can help Qatar in hosting the Olympic Games.
