A criminal court has awarded a seven-year jail sentence to a Filipino expatriate for killing one of his compatriots, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
The court has also ordered the guilty to pay a blood money of QR200,000 to the kith and kin of the victim after it waived his death penalty.
The guilty has appealed against the judgment and the court has adjourned the case to be heard at higher level on February 23.
The court found the killing was against the Islamic teachings and doctrines. It found the guilty committed the crime using an iron rod when his appeal for financial assistance was turned down by the victim at the latter's place of residence.
During the trial, it was found that the accused hit the victim a number of times using the iron rod before he stabbed him with a knife at kitchen. He also poured burning oil on the victim's head.
On hearing the loud cries of the victim, some of the neighbours who rushed to the scene found the assailant hurling the tools used for murder and trying to escape from the place.
In the meanwhile the police who were informed of the incident arrived and apprehended the murderer.
Eye witnesses gave their testimonies during the trial and the court found that the murder was committed by the accused person himself.
Though the accused denied his act and told the court that he was coerced to admit to his crime by the investigators the judge found that the evidence that it received during the trial was enough to prove his guilt.
