Call to open
Corniche
fish market
immediately

Nationals and residents have called up on the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to speed up the opening of the new fish market at Corniche, reports local Arabic daily Arrayah.
They say that the opening of the new market, set for this month, has been delayed without citing any reason.
They added that the new fish market will significantly improve the sale through 29 small outlets and enable the customers to select the best quality fish at fair prices.
The new fish market is provided with good lighting, large area and an open space without roof which will reduce foul smell. The sunshades will protect the vendors from sunlight and preserve the quality of fish, the daily added.

‘Some eateries
serving leftovers
as fresh meals’

A number of citizens have expressed concern over the “dubious” practices of some restaurants and urged the authorities concerned to intensify monitoring and inspection campaigns, local daily Al Arab has reported.
Employees in some restaurants allegedly reuse leftovers by serving them to customers as fresh meals while others use old and spoilt vegetables, the daily has learnt. The food is cooked in such a manner, with the use of spices, that customers are mostly unable to figure out that something is wrong with the items or their ingredients.
The citizens told the daily that some of the mid-level restaurants use old vegetables in their meals. They enter into contracts with traders to supply such vegetables at reduced prices, the nationals point out.
A number of former restaurant workers have admitted that employees of many restaurants reuse leftovers, especially rice and vegetables, and were doing so on the instructions of their bosses in order to reduce costs. Other problems pertain to the use of old utensils and the same oil for a lengthy period, according to the report.
