SCREENING: A Nepali documentary titled Bahadur Bahini (The Brave Sister) was screened in Qatar recently. The 40-minute documentary was screened for free at Golden Fork Restaurant in Musherib. Bahadur Bahini is based on Sabitri Shrestha’s struggle in seeking justice for the murder of her two brothers. Filmmaker Ganesh Panday, the director, was also present for the screening. During the civil war in Nepal, Sabitri from Pokhali, lost her brother Ujjan Shrestha on June 24, 1998, for having inter-cast marriage, and five years later her second brother Ganesh who pleaded against his brother’s murder was shot dead in front of his traumatised daughter Rachana, who went on to commit suicide. Her house was captured and made party’s central office by Maoists and later bombed by the armed force. This painful story is based on real-life incidents.
