Nine new constituencies will be included in the upcoming elections of the Central Municipal Council, for which registration for voters starts January 15, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
So far, three Qatari women have declared their intention to nominate themselves at different constituencies. Amal Issa al-Muhannadi, who was a former nominee for Al Kharaitiyat constituency, is set to contest from constituency 17, which includes four areas - Al Kharaitiyat (north), Al Furush, Bu Qarn and Izghawa (North).
She pointed out that the main issue now in the registration process is that women voters would face a problem with their phone numbers as these are usually registered in the name of their husbands or fathers and the system requires a phone number registered to the name and ID number of the person.
“We hope that the entities concerned take this into consideration and make it enough to register with the name and ID number,” she said.
Fatima al-Ghzal, former CMC nominee for Abu Hamour constituency, has also expressed her intention to nominate herself for constituency 10 which includes Abu Hamour (east), Mamoura, Nuaja (west) and the Central Market areas. She said she is very keen to do public service and wants to regain the confidence of the voters in the CMC.
Fatimah al-Kuwari, a former CMC nominee for the Old Airport constituency, has expressed her intention to stand for constituency nine, which includes Al Thumama, Ras Abu Fontas (north) and Mesaimeer areas, the daily added.
