The Philippines will have a public holiday in the capital during Pope Francis’ visit in January, the president’s office said yesterday. 

The Pope will be visiting Manila and the eastern city of Tacloban from January 15-19. 

The president’s Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa said January 15, 16 and 19 are to be non-working days for the 12mn people of metropolitan Manila. 

Pope Francis will meet with leaders from the Catholic Church and other religions, youth representatives, government officials and Philippine families in Manila. 

In Tacloban, the Pope is scheduled to have lunch with survivors of typhoon
Haiyan and other calamities in 2013, as well as inaugurate a centre for poor.
