French rider Maxime Denualt rode out Zohair Moghsen trained Pearl Bridge to victory in the Thoroughbred Conditions race to clinch the Longines World Fegentri Championship at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club yesterday. |
Denualt who was trailing by 19 points from the leader was in a must-win situation. The Frenchman could not have asked for a better ride as Pearl Bridge showed a clean pair of heels when it mattered most and spared a length to My Sharona at the finish.
Czech Republic’s Jindrich Fabris and Denualt tied for the first place with 128 points each, but since Denualt had more number of seconds, the Frenchman was adjudged the winner.
“It is unbelievable to win this championship. I was trailing way behind the leader and to get a winner in the final race of the championship is simply amazing. I must thank trainer Moghsen for this victory which means so much to me,” Denualt told the Gulf Times.
A dejected Fabras said. “I feel very sad at losing out the championship, which was in my grip till the last race. It is a great results for me as I rode two less races than Denualt in the championship. I am glad I had the opportunity to ride in the wonderful racecourse in Doha. The facilities here are brilliant and I am looking to coming back to Doha again.”
