Life in the Networked Society, where every person and every industry is empowered to reach their full potential, is a core focus for Ericsson at the ongoing ITU Telecom World 2014 in Doha.

Participating in partnership with Ooredoo Qatar, Ericsson is demonstrating what future smart cities in the Networked Society could look like, when the community is empowered by state-of-the-art technologies.

“Ericsson is committed to creating new solutions that will pave the way for a more connected future, in support of our key partners in the industry who are contributing to the region’s growing smart cities,” said Rafiah Ibrahim, president of Ericsson Region Middle East.

Visitors to the event can experience Ericsson’s vision of a Networked Society smart city through Ericsson’s “Driving Industry Transformation: M2M (Machine to Machine)” demonstration, which explores one of the fastest-growing areas in the information and communications technology industry. The demonstration focuses on three main industry segments that are driving M2M innovation: automotive, utilities and energy, and transport.

Journeys in the Networked Society will be revolutionised with the introduction of the “Connected Car”, which completely changes the driver’s experience and has the potential to transform the entire automotive industry. On display is Volvo’s cloud-based Sensus Connect connectivity system, based on Ericsson’s Service Enablement Platform.

Ericsson’s Connected Paper solution provides visitors with a window into the future, through a technology that makes accessing information easier than ever before – by just touching it. Connected Paper demonstrates how consumers use their body to become the wire that transfers data into services on a smartphone, by simply touching anything printed.

At Ericsson’s Smart Metering experience station, visitors can see how something as simple as a utility meter can work smartly, through a solution that provides operational efficiency, real-time monitoring and flexibility to utility providers. Consumers also benefit by getting complete access and control of all metering-related information through their smartphone, while reducing energy consumption.

The Networked Society will introduce opportunities for freedom, empowerment and transformation of both industries and society, while helping find solutions to some of the greatest challenges facing the planet.
