Qatar Airways’ National Talent Management Programme, Al Darb, has successfully conducted the second session of its “Coaching as a Management Style” training course in partnership with Airbusiness Academy.

With training and development as a focal point of the Al Darb Qatarisation Programme, the “Coaching as a Management Style” course is conducted for select Qatar Airways managers to ensure that Qatari developees receive the best support during the 24-month rotation programme across various departments within the airline.

Managers selected for the course act as the developees’ coaches for 24 months and help them follow a structured plan and specific strategies to ensure that the developees are on the right track and will be ready for a full-time job after their two-year rotation.

The Al Darb Qatarisation Programme aims at training and certifying 90 coaches by March 2015. The programme also runs comprehensive training courses for its new developees to expand and enhance their skills and talents for future leadership positions within the airline.

Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar al-Baker stressed that such training programmes have been very successful in the development of Qatari talent who join the airline.

“Qatar Airways is highly supportive of learning and development programmes and as the national airline, we take every necessary step to nurture Qatari talent in order to help them build successful careers in aviation,” he said.

“Qatar Airways provides a structured and rich training programme for its managers and developees. Our aim is to invest in young Qatari nationals who will be Qatar’s ambassadors in the future,” said Dr Kholode al-Obaidli, Qatar Airways vice-president, National Talent Management.

During the first six months, Qatari developees go through an average of 32 days of soft skills and technical skills courses via Qatar Airways’ Learning and Development department. Examples of the courses offered are Communication across Culture, Change Management, Passenger Tariff and Five-star Leadership Foundation.

Twelve months after joining Qatar Airways, the developees receive their Rolls-Royce training and complete their IATA diploma before the end of their two-year rotation.

All the courses provided by Qatar Airways come under the Al Darb Qatarisation programme that broadens the way for Qatari nationals to join the airline. Al Darb is an Arabic word that means “the pathway”.

Qatar Airways accepts 23 different majors and offers developees nine programmes under the Al Darb Qatarisation programme, which will help them find the right path that matches their talent and passion.

Qatar Airways also gives developees the opportunity to find a job in Doha or at any of its offices in more than 140 destinations around the world. With the continuous support and coaching that Qatar Airways provides, the developees find it easy to learn and develop their skills.
