Muntajat BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat), recently inaugurated its headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.

The inauguration was followed by a dinner that was held at the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus and attended by HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada and chairman of Muntajat’s board of directors; Khalid bin Fahad al-Khater, Qatar’s ambassador to The Netherlands; and Maarten Camps, secretary general (economic affairs), The Netherlands among other dignitaries.

Muntajat, which was launched in the second half of 2012, holds exclusive rights to market, distribute and sell Qatar’s 10mn tonnes of chemical and petrochemical exports to the global market.

Al-Sada termed the inauguration of Muntajat BV headquarters as an “important milestone” for Muntajat as well as for Qatar’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector.

He said the key to Qatar’s success in the responsible and sustained utilisation of its hydrocarbon resources was “the development and diversification of its petrochemical industry, which maximised the potential of these resources”.

“For more than a year now, Qatar’s downstream products have been marketed and sold under a single banner-Muntajat. In its second year, Muntajat stands today ready to announce assuming responsibility for the full 100% of Qatar’s high quality chemical and petrochemical production,” al-Sada said. Muntajat BV is proud to be the latest addition to the Hague, along with a long list of international companies, institutions and organisations, he added.

The inauguration of the Muntajat BV headquarters follows the opening of 14 new marketing offices in Morocco, Sri Lanka, the UAE, India, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, and Turkey. At the inauguration dinner, Abdulrahman Ali al-Abdulla, Muntajat chief executive officer said, “The inauguration of the international Marketing Company’s headquarters marks a defining moment for Muntajat. Muntajat BV represents the fulfilment of our mission of marketing “Made in Qatar” chemical and petrochemical products on the global market. Our international marketing network is expanding and already services more than 120 countries.

“Muntajat is the success it is today because it leverages the value of top local and international talent, a roadmap we will continue to follow in the future. We are pleased that The Hague and The Netherlands are part of the Muntajat story moving forward.”

Based in the World Trade Centre, the newly established headquarters will set strategic direction for the network’s global marketing offices and serve customers based in Europe and the US.

Camps said, “Qatar and the Netherlands are both small countries with big ambitions. We are both true gas-producing countries. We are also countries in transition – looking to add more sustainable energy to our energy mix.”

Recognised as a world leader in natural gas production, Qatar is also a major producer of chemicals and petrochemicals. Its current chemical and petrochemical export portfolio is expected to get a boost from new project’s launches in the coming few years.

With growing global demand for chemicals, polymers and fertilisers, Qatar’s increasing production is meeting and supporting the growth of a wide number of industries around the world.

Qatar is investing billions of dollars in its chemical and petrochemical sector until 2020 as part of its economic diversification strategy and its mission to increase its global market share in the chemicals and petrochemicals industries.
