The Ministry of Interior (MoI) opened yesterday the auction of seized vehicles at the MoI’s yard along Street 52 of the Doha Industrial Area.
The auction, held daily from 8am to 11am and 3:30pm to 7pm, is open to the public. The vehicles auctioned yesterday were of varied types and brands, including some new models.
The MoI said the vehicles were seized for various traffic violations and ended up for auction after owners failed to claim or settle the fines within six months.
The bidding for each vehicle started at QR1,000. A 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser was sold for QR11,500 and a 2006 Daihatsu sedan went for QR14,500 while a 2009 Nissan X-Terra was auctioned for QR45,000.
One buyer went home with a 2002 Nissan Maxima sold at QR5,500 while another bought a 2007 Toyota Hilux pickup double cabin for QR37,000.
Successful bidders were also asked to pay outright QR5,000 of the amount purchased with the balance to be settled within 24 hours, failing which the MoI has the right to auction the vehicle again.
