Barwa Real Estate Group has officially appointed local consultancy Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB) for the delivery of the company’s newest development, “Motor City.”

The agreement, signed by Barwa acting Group CEO Ahmad Abdulla al-Abdulla and AEB CEO and chief architect Ibrahim al-Jaidah, stipulates that AEB will provide a pre-concept master plan, infrastructure and architectural design, in addition to cost management and tender documentation for the QR49mn Motor City project.

Founded in 1966, AEB is an award-winning full service architectural design and consultancy firm, which draws on the strengths of an architectural methodology established by al-Jaidah and portrays the present development and where appropriate, preserves and articulates the traditional Qatari architecture.

The firm works across extensively divergent project scales, typologies, and environmental conditions with its approach grounded in the search for contextually appropriate and environmentally sustainable solutions.

AEB is working in collaboration with Stantec to deliver design consultancy services, which include master planning, roads and infrastructure, building architecture and engineering design.

Stantec is a multinational consulting group with more than 14,000 employees working in more than 230 locations, including offices in the region. Founded in 1954, Stantec is a leading North American based architecture and engineering firm that designs with the community in mind.

Having designed similar motor-related projects worldwide and in the region, the collaboration enables transfer of know-how to local consultants and community, while ensuring a delivery of world-class specialised development.

The Motor City comes under Barwa’s social and economic contributions to the Qatari society as it enables young merchants to start their businesses using commercial units with encouraging prices.

The collaboration with AEB adds value to the social and economic dimensions which the Motor City holds as it encourages doing business with Qatari companies, benefitting from domestic resources, and importing knowledge economy concepts into Qatar by sharing and utilising specialised knowledge borrowed from foreign companies.

Barwa had unveiled the Motor City project in a press conference in October following its rental of a land extending more than 1,150,000 sq m located in Rawdat Rashid near Salwa Road to develop and run the Motor City.

Once completed, the Motor City will provide showrooms with a wide range of used-cars services, car workshops, maintenance centres, and warehouses for used cars as well as rent-a-car services.

More services such as offices for the Traffic Department, technical testing, offices for the Ministry of Interior, Civil Defence, Ministry of Municipality, banks and car insurance will also be available at the location.

Moreover, the project will contain commercial units, a hotel, staff accommodation for families, workers accommodation, a driving school, a race track, in addition to other necessary facilities.
