The fifth edition of Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS 2014) was inaugurated yesterday by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin zaid al-Mahmoud at Qatar National Convention Centre. |
QCS 2014, prepared by the Ministry of Environment, sets the standards for building materials and construction safety in Qatar. The standards will be binding on all private and public building and construction
processes.
Addressing the opening session of the two-day conference, the Minister of Environment He Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi said that QCS 2014 had been built on the premise that it would help improve quality of construction in the country.
He said that technical specifications in QCS 2014 would help the sector to attain the highest levels of quality and safety in buildings and infrastructure constructions.
“Technical specifications entail improving performance and efficiency of energy usage through accreditation of sustainable green buildings
system,” said the Deputy PM.
According to him, such specifications are considered as the benchmarks for regulating the building and construction sector.
A documentary film was presented at the opening session to highlight the construction boom and development in the country and the need for the building specifications.
Three specialised workshops and discussions panels were held on the local concrete and cement industry and ready-mix techniques and sanitary drainage.
The Minister of Environment HE Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi honoured the people who prepared QCS 2014. They included MoE assistant undersecretary Dr Mohamed bin Sayf al-Kuwari, heads of various committees, and representatives of the main sponsors.
Top officials from the MoE, Ashghal and construction industry representatives also attended the opening session of the conference.
