Qatar ace Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah won the Morocco leg of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and closed the gap with championship leader Russia’s Vladimir Vasilyev to 20 points.

The title will now be decided in the last round to be held in Portugal next month.

“I’m really delighted with my victory in Morocco, al-Attiyah said.

“Racing the MINI was big fun – it’s just a great car. Nonetheless, the past days weren’t easy as the battle was really tough,” he added.

Al-Attiyah incurred a one-minute time penalty and still maintained a slender advantage of  15sec over Terranova heading into the final 113km loop stage around Marrakech and he managed to extend that advantage to reach the podium with a winning margin of 1min 42sec.
