While Eid festivities are still going on at various locations in the county, many private businesses have resumed normal working hours since Tuesday.
Those working in the construction sector and the various workshops at the Doha Industrial Area had a busy work schedule immediately after the Eid holidays.
Some of these resumed work as early as Monday due to the volume of work they have.
“Every day counts for us and so work had to be resumed as soon as possible because we have tight delivery schedules. Villa construction is booming throughout the country but it is a highly competitive one in terms of prices, delivery time and the quality of work. So, small companies like us, have to maintain exceptional performance to retain good business in such a market,” said an expatriate project manager, who works for a midsize local construction company.
Similarly, many workshops, such as those in the carpentry and metal works sectors, started work early to fulfil their contracts with the construction companies, which are driving their business.
“We have to accomplish the requests of our clients on time because any delay from our part would consequently cause delay to their work and may harm us too. Regarding workers, I make sure that they are properly compensated as they are an integral part of the production process,” said Nasser, a local owner of a metal workshop at the Doha Industrial Area.
Many auto repair workshops saw a considerable increase of demand immediately after the first three days of Eid holidays. Some of these were due to minor crashes and others for repair works required for the renewal of vehicle registration and other related issues.
“The Eid holidays were a good chance to meet community friends and enjoy sometime with them. It was real fun at different places in Doha, such as the Corniche Street, Souq Waqif and West End Park, and away from the atmosphere of the Industrial Area,” said a Sri Lankan, mechanical foreman at an auto repair workshop. The Industrial Area hosts a large number of lowly paid skilled and unskilled workers, mostly of Asian origin.
