According to a Carnegie Mellon Qatar survey, university’s ranking and reputation was a top factor impacting the university selection process.

Carnegie Mellon University, which has a branch campus in Qatar, has been ranked 25 on the “Best National Universities” list in the recently released US News & World Report’s 2015 Best College Rankings.

The 2015 edition of best colleges includes data on nearly 1,800 schools nationwide to help parents and students evaluate their options. Of those, 280 are considered national universities, which emphasise faculty research and offer a full range of undergraduate majors plus Master’s and PhD
programmes.

Carnegie Mellon ranked No 8 on the “Best Undergraduate Business Programmes” list, No 2 in “Management Information Systems” and No 1 for “Graduate Schools in Computer Science”, reflecting the university’s high-quality programmes and award-winning faculty, according to a statement.

University rankings have proven to be a useful resource, guiding prospective students through the selection process.

A survey conducted by Carnegie Mellon Qatar among incoming students in early 2014 revealed the university’s ranking and reputation as a top factor impacting the university selection process. Programmes offered and job opportunities were also cited as important factors for
prospective students from Qatar.

As one of Carnegie Mellon’s most prestigious programmes, the undergraduate degree in business administration encompasses management, leadership and a commitment to
ethical behaviour.

“Carnegie Mellon’s undergraduate business programme is consistently ranked among the top 10 programmes in the US, reflecting our rigorous curriculum, global focus and analytical approach to problem solving. We are also proud that the university’s graduate programme in computer science has placed No 1 in the country,” said Ilker Baybars, dean of Carnegie
Mellon University in Qatar.

Carnegie Mellon Qatar graduates are well prepared to shape the future development of Qatar and the region, the statement adds.

Other schools listed at the top were Princeton University, Harvard University, Yale University and Columbia University.

As the new admissions cycle kicks off, prospective students have begun their applications for 2015.
