The Beaches and Islands Section of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) has conducted an intensive cleaning campaign at different beaches of the country.
The campaign, which started last month, covered Al-Wakrah Port, Al-Shammal, Al Salfiya Island, Cornich, Marriott beach and Abu Fontas beach.
Among the things removed during the campaign was a dead dolphin found at Al-Wakrah beach, besides old tyres at various locations, cans, remains of fishing nets and dead fish at various locations. Also, there were pieces and planks of wood scattered at various beach locations and garbage left over by beach visitors.
The refuse left behind by winter campers constituted a considerable quantity of the garbage removed by the Municipality during the campaign, according to sources.
In particular, the ministry’s Beaches and Islands Section has managed to cleanse Al Salfiya Island, removing all refuse left by negligent visitors, sources said.
Beaches in Qatar are a good destination of recreation and entertainment for the country’s inhabitants and have a good turnout of visitors all year round, especially in the weekends.
All the beaches have been provided with an adequate number of garbage containers and officials urged visitors to use them.
