Conserve water
Dear Sir,
While walking on the Corniche the other day, I was shocked to see plastic bottles floating in the sea. How can people be so irresponsible, throwing garbage wherever they want when authorities have provided dustbins all around the area! It not only spoils the beauty of the place but also affects the marine life.
We must realise that  even though water covers three-fourths of the earth’s surface, only 1% of it can be used by human beings.
We need water to survive. But if we pollute it like this, it will pose a huge danger to human future. People need to be concerned about saving water, especially in the Gulf region where drinkable water is scarce.
We need to make people understand about the importance of water. More awareness drives are the best solution. A great example was the Environment Day in which every school in Qatar was actively involved.
How can we conserve water? I am sure Gulf Times readers will have a lot of innovative ideas. Let’s put our heads together to protect the world’s most precious resources.

The war within Israel
Dear Sir,
Israel’s disgusting lies have led to its aggression on Gaza. As a corollary of this aggression, the Jewish state’s failures have caused a war within.
After killing hundreds of innocent people, many Israeli soldiers are reported to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
An Israeli columnist, Gili Cohen, in “The war that comes after the Gaza war” reveals: “For soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder, the real battles are just beginning.”
In another case, a group of Israeli veterans has made a statement (published in The Independent) against the current fighting. The statement highlights the pressure put by superiors on soldiers to kill innocent Palestinians.
Former Israeli politician Uzi Baram, in his latest opinion piece,“The shame on an Israel dripping with venom” points out that “a new protest is forming, and not just against the occupation, It’s against the racism that’s erupting everywhere”.
Another Israeli columnist, Uri Misgav, in an article, “The Iron Dome over our consciences”, writes: “Restraint? I’d like to see how Israelis would react if just once an F-16 squadron swooped down on a residential neighbourhood and dropped a ton of smart bombs on it.”
Israeli author and journalist Amira Haas, in her column, “Reaping what we have sown in Gaza”, laments: “I’ve stopped searching the dictionary for the word to describe half of a boy’s missing head while his father screams, ‘Wake up, wake up, I bought you a toy!’ How did Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, put it? ‘Israel’s right to defend itself’.”
These ruminations prove that Israel is going through a war within. People with brave consciences and post-traumatic disorders are clashing with warmongers and fanatics. Indeed, Israel has no way to get away with war crimes.
