Qatar Charity (QC) and Education Above All (EAA), a global initiative of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, have signed an agreement to support out of school children worldwide and embark on joint field action in a number of countries targeted by EAA’s Educate A Child (EAC) programme.
Under the agreement, the two entities will organise fundraising campaigns for relevant projects and activities in six countries - Syria, Gaza in Palestine, Yemen, South Sudan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The two entities seek to enable children in these countries to enrol in schools to complete their
basic education.
They will also organise cultural activities in the six countries and open bank accounts to collect donations for this initiative as well as announcing how donors can make donations in Qatar. The agreement was signed at Qatar Charity’s headquarters by Yusuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, chief executive officer of QC, and Marcio Barbosa, chief executive officer of EAA.
Al-Kuwari said the agreement supports children’s right to education at a time when growing numbers are being denied access to basic education in many parts of the world.
He stressed that QC supports education as a pillar of human progress and development and added that the organisation finances and supports educational projects in many countries through 18 field offices on three continents.
He said: “In the EAC, under the leadership of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, we have found a great opportunity for co-operation to support out of school children worldwide.”
Barbosa said: “We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with QC, one of the most successful global impact organisations in the region, and are certain it will result in acceleration in access to educational programmes for out of school children in the focus markets. This is fully in line with HH Sheikha Moza’s commitment to expand access to 10mn children by the end of the 2015/16 school year via the EAC.”
Qatar Charity places special attention on education in its projects and is currently implementing these in dozens of countries across three continents. In the first half of 2014, the organisation made more than QR35.2mn available for 165 educational projects that included building, student and teacher sponsorships, training
courses among others.
EAC is a global programme launched in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of Qatar Foundation at the World Innovation Summit for Education (Wise), in
November 2012.
