Northern communities and the Ras Laffan Industrial City Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP) organised a Garangao celebration for women, children and members of the northern communities.
The celebration, which saw a turnout of 900 attendees, took place at the Al Thakhira Youth Centre in a specially built luxury tent where a series of activities were hosted, arranged by the Al Thakhira Youth Centre and North Social Police.
Activities included traditional workshops, on-stage entertainment, plays and various games and competitions with prizes being distributed to all children who participated in the festivities.
Participants received traditional bags of sweets and gifts in addition to the best Garangao outfit award.
Other youth centres and community establishments from the northern communities participated in the Garangao, including Al Shamal Sports Club, Al Kabaan Youth Centre, Al Noor Centre, Qudorat Centre and Simaisma Youth Centre.
Moza al-Mohannadi, a representative of RLIC-COP, said: “We consider Garangao to be a special night to share Qatar’s heritage as well as further enhance the important relationship between us and the community. This is fundamental to achieving our vision.
“The RLIC-COP’s efforts in supporting the Garangao celebration is a continuation of our long-term initiative to connect with the northern communities of Qatar and join efforts between industry and the communities to better understand each other and work together towards common goals.”
