Ramadan projects of Qatar Charity will feed more than 900,000 people who keep their fast in 34 countries this year.

The targeted countries include Palestine, Lebanon, Albania, Morocco, Bangladesh, Syria, Bosnia, Kosovo, Mali, Jordan, Tunisia, Mauritania, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, India, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Iran, Comoros, Pakistan, Indonesia, Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Niger, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.

Around 16,750 food baskets were also distributed at a cost of around QR6mn, which benefited 93,750 people in Palestine, Albania, Ukraine, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq, Niger, Yemen, Bangladesh, Benin, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo,
Lebanon and Mauritania.

Iftar tables were also organised for 400 poor and elderly people in the Gaza Strip, seven collective Iftar banquets were dedicated to orphans and their families and also to people with disabilities and prisoners, benefiting 2,700 people.

QC will also deliver food, enabling 16,200 poor families and the families of orphans across the Gaza Strip, in co-operation with 62 local organisations. Each meal contains a plate of cooked rice with chicken, in addition to yogurt for three people, benefiting around 48,600 people.

The total number of collective Iftars in the Gaza Strip, amounted to 17,550 meals for the benefit of 51,300 people.

In Mauritania, Iftar tables targeted orphans and poor families sponsored by the QC Mauritania office, as well as students and those with special needs, including the blind, in the first week of Ramadan.

The Iftars were held at the capital Nouakchott, with a focus on slum-dwellers and highly populated areas, worshippers at mosques, students and patients at National Hospital during the holy month of Ramadan.

More than 20,000 meals are also expected to be provided by QC in Mauritania, in addition to 500 Ramadan food baskets.

In Kosovo, QC distributed 2,000 Ramadan food baskets, benefiting 10,000 orphans, poor families, people with disabilities and students. The baskets contained items such as oil, beans, rice, pasta, sugar and tea.

This year’s budget for external Ramadan projects has risen by an estimated QR3mn compared to last year.

QC’s external Ramadan projects this year are valued at QR27mn with a total number of 1,352,750 expected beneficiaries.
