The Doha Film Institute’s year-round screening series, ‘Hekayat Khaleejiya,’ will feature films from Kuwait, it was announced yesterday. |
Hekayat Khaleejiya will feature a programme of four short films, with two screenings each on Wednesday and Thursday, at 10pm at the Museum of Islamic Art, followed by Q&A sessions with the directors.
Headlining the showcase is Meqdad al-Kout’s Dinosaur, which follows the story of Bu Mansour, a government employee who strives to change his job title on the brink of retirement. Al-Kout’s comedic streak has won him several accolades at international film festivals.
Musaed al-Mutairi’s Ka3bool narrates the trials and tribulations of Khalid aka Ka3bool, a Bedouin who works at a fast food restaurant to pay his bills. When he is fired from his job, he finds himself in a difficult situation, as he has to deal with people mocking him and taking advantage of him.
The protagonist in Men’s Barbershop by Meshal Alhulail is faced with the seemingly impossible dilemma of changing his barber; while Yousef al-Mujeem’s Sorat Jawaz narrates the story of a Kuwaiti national who visits a photographer to have his picture taken for his passport.
