Global electronic major LG Electronics (LG) yesterday launched their latest smartphone LG G3, which the manufacturers hope would help them rewrite the prevailing equations in the mobile market across the world.

Senior LG officials, who joined their country distributors Video Home & Jumbo Electronics, formally announced the Qatar entry of LG G3, which was launched a month ago in South Korea. The smartphone would be available at the country’s outlets by today or tomorrow, they said.

Addressing journalists and company’s dealers, LG Mobile Division Head (Gulf FZE) Sungsoo Hong, said he had no doubts that the new product would redefine the definition of a smartphone for those loyal customers looking for smart but simple devices that integrated the latest cutting edge technology.

“Our company spent several thousands of hours of R&D to come out with a unique phone as this, which is developed under the Simple is the New Smart concept,” said Hong who added the LG G3 is the first smartphone with laser auto focus.

“We are certain that LG G3 will be a super hit in the Qatar market as our company has done enormous work to take the smartphone to new heights,” he added.

The company official also said the LG G3 is an upgrade to the G2 with a range of features with the industry’s first ever laser auto focus and 5.5 inch Quad high-definition display, giving customers 400% additional resolution of the normal HD and 200% higher resolution than a full HD display.

LG Qatar general manager Jennifer Kim said the latest phone has once again reiterated their company’s commitment to come out with products of unmatchable and uncompromising class, quality and standard.

Qatar, which she termed as a growing product, has wholeheartedly received LG mobile phones, home appliances and electronic gadgets all these years and LG G3 has enhanced their reputation in the display arena.

“The development of the Quad HD display is the result of years of innovation in display technology,” she said.

While explaining the surge LG has made in the smartphone segment worldwide with the launch of LG G2 in the last one year, Video Home general manager Mohamed Anees said this time the manufacturers were doubly confident of a much greater patronage than even the G2.

He said in a highly competitive smartphone market as Qatar LG G2 alone has close to 15% share in the local market.

Video Home vice chairman and managing director Sajjid Jassim Sulaiman thanked the country’s LG customers and dealers for their support to the continuous growth of the brand. Company CEO C V Rappai was also present.

 ‘Company’s growth in Qatar amazing’

LG has recorded a steady growth in the smartphone market across the world, particularly in the GCC region, Sungsoo Hong, Mobile Division Head (LG Electronics Gulf) said yesterday. He said the response the company received from smartphone users since the launch of LG G2 prompted them to launch another advanced device. He said the launch of G3 would enable the company to record greater growth in the coming months. “We are already among the leaders in the world market and G3 would take us to new heights.” Hong said since G3’s launch in South Korea last month the gap between the previous leaders in smartphone segment and LG has narrowed. “We will soon emerge on top in the smartphone sector,” he said adding their share in smartphone market is close to 45% in South Korea. Hong said the company’s growth in Qatar market has been amazing. “G2 has an excellent penetration in the local market and we are happy with its market share and visibility in Qatar.” He said the G3 would be available in four colours - Metallic black, Silk white, Burgundy red and Shine gold. The new phone would be sold at QR2,259 (16 GB) and QR2,459 (32 GB).
