In view of the soaring temperature, all Indian schools in the country have decided to shorten the teaching hours. The new schedule will be followed in most of the schools from today.
The decision is to shorten the school day by one hour. The schools will start from 6.45am and will finish by 12.30pm. Most of the schools will have the duration of each teaching period as well as the breaks in between reduced by 5 minutes so that teaching is not significantly affected.
Speaking to Gulf Times, Ideal Indian School principal Syed Shaukat Ali said that the school will implement the reduced hours from today. He said: “We have got a very tight schedule as we have to complete the syllabus in the given timeframe. But we have also to think of a conducive environment for facilitating education. Moreover, from next week, we have the examinations for the many of the classes. So it is a matter of a week or so.”
MES Indian School principal A P Sasidharan said his school “will start the new schedule from Thursday as we have a few things to settle on Wednesday. The school has informed everyone accordingly.”
There was a great demand from parents to reduce the teaching hours in view of the soaring heat right from the second half of May. The Supreme Education Council had already announced shortened hours for the students of the Independent Schools.
Meanwhile, all the schools have stopped outdoor activities and have asked the students not to use blazers. Most of the schools also have done away with the ties. Students have been advised to drink plenty of water and not to get exposed to the sun for a longer duration.
