Young nationals working at Qatargas met with the company’s chief executive officer, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani, at the 13th Annual Qatargas CEO Forum held recently.
The forum was facilitated by the company’s Qatarisation and National Development Division, Learning and Development Department.
The forum gives national graduates and trainees the opportunity to discuss their concerns regarding their career development within Qatargas. It also offers updates on the company’s Qatarisation programme. This year, the forum was held under the theme “Commitment to National Development.”
The forum is traditionally one of a number of platforms providing an opportunity for Qatari national graduates and trainees to address the Qatargas management and contribute to decision-making, besides giving them a chance to feel that their voices continue to be heard. National graduates are encouraged to share their own experiences on the National Graduate Development Programme at Qatargas.
The forum gives them the opportunity to share with the company’s senior management and fellow graduates highlights of their best experiences during the programme as well as their ideas for improving it.
Addressing the young nationals, the CEO said: “The Qatargas senior management is totally committed to supporting your career development. We also need your commitment, as national graduates, to your own career development. You are responsible for driving your development, you are responsible for seeking opportunities for growth and your potential and future career is in your hands.”
Hessa Mohamed al-Nesf, corporate planning analyst, shared her success story at the forum. Earlier this year, Hessa became the first Qatari national to be awarded the Incorporated Engineer status, an internationally recognised qualification established by the Engineering Council in the UK.
Hessa graduated from Texas A&M University at Qatar in Chemical Engineering in 2008. The following year, she joined the Qatargas Engineering Department as a process engineer under Qatargas’ National Graduate Development Programme.
After proving her capabilities as a process engineer, she moved to the Corporate Planning Department in 2013 as a corporate planning analyst.
Another success story was that of Faisal Rashid al-Enazi, who joined Qatargas as a trainee in 1997. In 1999, he was nominated for the National Certificate Programme. Faisal worked in the Operations Department after completing the programme.
In 2003, he enrolled for Higher National Diploma in Chemical Engineering at Teeside University, UK, and graduated as chemical engineer in 2006. After moving up through several positions, including various roles in Qatargas’ expansion start-up projects, Faisal was assigned as operations specialist in 2013.
The CEO also presented awards to the best graduates and trainees for their outstanding performance in 2013. The coaches who excelled in training and mentoring the national employees were also honoured by the CEO at the forum.
