Qatar’s Jamal Mubarak al-Nasr has set his sights high. The young boxer who won the gold medal in his category in the Doha Open Championships has started the sport only recently but he is keen to get to the highest level possible in the welterweight category (69kg). “I want to be the champion of Qatar and then the champion of the world,” said Jamal yesterday after his win. He started boxing only a year and a half ago but is steadily improving his game. “I watched a few of the fights on television and decided to become a boxer. I know this is a tough sport but I want to do well in it,” he said. And he is confident that he will succeed and not just that but that his success will bring more popularity to the sport in Qatar. “I have only started now. But once I am champion then I will be attracted to more people to the sport and make it more popular,” said Jamal.

With three brothers who support him fully, Jamal is keen to make a name for himself and Qatar. We wish him many knockouts to come.
