Inspired by its motto “Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity” and in support of global efforts in this respect, Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) is organising an international conference titled “Doha Dialogue on Migration 2014” from June 15-17 at Doha Marriott Hotel.
According to the agenda, Doha Dialogue will begin with discussions on various experiences from around the world, attended by a delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), presidents of more than 25 Gulf, Arab, Southeast Asian and European national societies, and top officials of major Qatari government and private institutions and corporations.
The participants will then submit their recommendations to the conference, to be officially opened on June 16 by HE Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.
Running through June 17, the event will feature VIP attendance, including QRC chairman Dr Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Ali al-Maadheed, International Institute of Humanitarian Law president Prof Fausto Pocar and IFRC vice-president Dr Zhao Baige.
Dr al-Maadheed said the conference is a further step towards the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to ensure a high standard of living for all members of society.
“We hope that this gathering will shed light on the leading role of Qatar’s business community in this regard and mainstream the importance of having concerted efforts to transform this approach from mere theoretical information into a nationwide culture and practice,” he added.
QRC established a special Expatriate Workers Fund and addressed partners and donors to support it, with a view to improving the lives of expatriate workers.
Alfardan Group was announced as the premium sponsor of the fund, which will finance public awareness and educational programmes, healthcare and travel costs and education fees, as well as some QRC services for
poor expatriates.
As a significant push to the development of the national economy, the conference has received wide attention from key players in the country, with sponsorships from the Supreme Council of Health, Alfardan Group, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, United Development Company, Chevron Phillips and National Leasing Holding (Alijarah).
