With the temperature rising, many expatriate schools in Qatar are looking to the Supreme Education Council for early solutions.

A change in working hours is seen as a viable solution and this will provide some relief to students as well as staff, it is learnt.

The principal of an expatriate school said they are helpless as all decisions pertaining to the daily working hours of schools have to be taken by the SEC.

Another school official said the school might take a decision on changing timings “soon” and forward the recommendations to the authorities for perusal.

Speaking to Gulf Times, an official of a school said there were chances that the SEC might instruct schools in the first week of June to advance their daily
timings. Meanwhile, while most schools have done away with outdoor activities for now, there are reports that some are
continuing with such practices.

However, morning assemblies are not being held in most
expatriate schools at present.

When contacted recently, the meteorology department said there was nothing unusual with the temperatures experienced across the region these days.

“Temperatures ranging between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius were quite normal in the country this time of the year,” a Met official said, adding: “If the winds are strong, the intensity of such severe temperatures is not felt
at times.”
