A fire broke out in a warehouse containing building materials at The Pearl-Qatar yesterday morning.

While the fire did not cause any injuries, the Civil Defence has started an investigation into the matter to ascertain the cause of the blaze, United Development Company (UDC) – master developer of The Pearl-Qatar – said in a statement.

The fire was brought under control by Civil Defence personnel, who carried out the operation in co-ordination with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Rescue Police (Al Fazaa) and Hamad Medical Corporation’s ambulance team, in addition to assistance from the safety and security team of The Pearl- Qatar, according to the statement.

The warehouse, which is located near the Civil Defence station at The Pearl-Qatar, belongs to Power Line company, the statement adds.

Saeed Yousif al-Sulaiti, director of operations at The Pearl-Qatar, said the fire started in the place where the building materials and other inflammable materials were stored. While this caused damage to the construction materials, a probe was under way to find out the exact cause of the fire, he added.

The UDC management praised the efforts and abilities of Civil Defence personnel who promptly responded to the accident and brought the fire under control.

Meanwhile, Doha residents said smoke from The Pearl-Qatar could be seen from the Corniche and other places. Also, according to them, the place where the fire broke out was not too far from a fuel station.
