Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), part of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), has confirmed its participation at Qitcom 2014, which will take place from May 26 to 28 at Qatar National Convention Centre.

As Qatar’s primary hub for the facilities, education and skills needed to bring scientific and technological ideas to market, QSTP will focus on specific support programmes for local ICT entrepreneurs at Qitcom. The ICT sector is one of four core areas QSTP focuses on along with health, environmental and energy-related technologies. 

Mohamed Zebian, QSTP’s acting innovation director, will be a featured speaker at Qitcom’s Conference Venue, a segment of the larger event that encourages dialogue and
offers fresh insight.

Zebian’s talk, on May 28 at 4:30pm, with focus on the local successes, challenges and future of building a viable and lasting entrepreneurial ecosystem in Qatar.

“We are delighted to be the technology innovation partner in Qitcom 2014,” said QSTP managing director Hamad al-Kuwari.

“QSTP is increasingly focused on building the skills needed to create competitive, home-grown technology businesses and Qitcom is an essential platform to put our programmes, success stories and insights in full view,” he said.

At Qitcom, QSTP will also host a special edition of its popular TECHtalk sessions, titled “Social Media Analytics: Giving a Voice to the Region.” It will be hosted by Qatar-based entrepreneur Mohamed Takriti, CEO of iHorizons – a local technology start up residing at QSTP.

QSTP signed an agreement with iHorizons last year to support its research and development project. 

The TECHtalk panel on May 28 at 3pm will include: Dr Ingmar Weber; senior scientist at Qatar Computing Research Institute, and Dr Hilmi Rifai, executive partner at Gartner.

Visitors to QSTP’s stand at the conference will have the opportunity to see and experience the latest science and technology innovations from Qatar, including the analysis platform by iHorizons.

Another application that will be revealed at Qitcom for the first time is the Qatar Compliance & Audit Security Toolkit (Qcast) developed by Aman. Qcast is a complete compliance system and methodology which establishes compliance requirements as per National Information Assurance Policy (Niap) and ensures that scheduled compliance tasks are completed on time and rectification actions are followed through to completion.

“We decided to develop and application to help bring visualisation and greatly help the adoption of Qcert’s Niap,” observed Nashiat Aloudeh, general manager of Aman.
