The burial of expatriate Mariswamy Subramanium, who died of rabies infection last month, would be delayed by one or two days, owing to the delay in the arrival of his father and brother-in-law from India. |
His father, who needs the emigration clearance certificate, could not collect it from the authorities concerned, as it was a holiday in India yesterday (Sunday).
The two were expected to reach the country yesterday and the funeral was planned to be held either later in the day or today.If the father and brother-in-law arrive today, arrangements would be made to bury the body by tomorrow, said social worker Abdul Salam Palakkad, who is co-ordinating with the family to bury the body in Dukhan.As Subramanium died of rabies, the body cannot be repatriated to India and the sealed coffin also cannot be opened either, inquiries revealed.
Subramanium, a 25-year-old bachelor, was bitten by a dog while he was on vacation in his native state of Tamil Nadu in the month of March. However, the victim did not take the mandatory injection as the incident occurred on the eve of his departure to Doha.
He did not take the vaccination in Doha either after his arrival. He later developed rabies symptoms and passed away at the Hamad Hospital on April 15, a fortnight after being
admitted.
