A palpable sense of excitement is building up as tomorrow’s Asian 5 Nations kick-off match draws closer. The annual ranking tournament, run by the Asian Football Rugby Union, brings together the teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Iran and host Qatar to Doha for head-to-head battles in Division II.
The Qatar national team has been relentlessly training at Aspire Zone to be in top rugby form as they make their debut in the tougher Division II after winning divisions III and IV in consecutive years.
The pressure is certainly on for the team as their recent success has increased their prominence in the region. The squad, however, is determined to fully maximise the home court advantage and relying on the support of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Meanwhile, the tournament preparations are well underway with volunteer organisers meeting regularly and actively ensuring a smooth and exciting two days of international rugby. The competing countries will meet at Al Arabi Stadium beginning at 5:30pm.
