Wild cheers and nostalgia filled the large open-air venue of West End Park Amphitheatre recently, when Hoy Pinoy concert gave thousands of Filipinos a remarkable show, headlined by the Philippine Prince of Rock himself, Bamboo.
To mark his 20th year in the music industry, Bamboo Manalac — the frontman for the band Bamboo, did not miss to include old-time hits like Hinahanap Hanap Kita, Elesi, Ulan, Kisapmata, Hallelujah, Ulan, 214, among others in the line up, spanning from his early musical journey.
This made the avid fans screaming and on their toes as if under a spell – a crazy, pleasant and a sentimental one at that. But the spell grew even stronger when Bamboo hit off with the very familiar melody, Pinoy Ako which got everyone shouting in chorus.
Philippine TV personality Janelle Jamer also performed songs from her new album Drive. And there was no denying of her many talents, because not only can she sing, but she was able to dissolve the audience into robust laughter by her witty and rapid delivery of jokes to a group of volunteers, who are themselves intrepid with the artist’s fun antics.
The opening acts featured Filipino talents based in Doha such as dance groups like Extreme Level Crew and Dimp Crew, bands like Asiano and Overtone, rap artists Trece Familia and Vhandana, as well as a fashion show by designer Celso Collado Dahil.
“The success of the Bamboo concert is a concerted effort of all the members of the team. The overwhelming positive feedback we got from people inspired us to do even far better and high-quality shows. We want to set an international standard, a world-class kind of event management that will bring pride and joy to the Filipinos here in Doha,” said Conchita Ponce, Director of Marketing and Events at Events and Beyond, the team behind the concert.
Events and Beyond expressed their gratitude to sponsors who helped make the show possible such as Al Khulafa Trading and Transport, LBC, Holiday Villa, EMCO, Sharaf DG and Shine Jewellery .
Overall the event gave Filipinos a full-blast of entertainment that steered them clear from the usual work routine, “enabled them to recharge their batteries and battle homesickness,” said one supporter.
