A Tajik diplomat was injured yesterday when unknown gunmen ambushed his vehicle in northern Afghanistan, police said.
“The armed men opened fire at his car, and only he was injured,” said Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, a police official in Kunduz province.
Hussaini identified the diplomat only as Mahboob, the Tajik consul in Badakhshan province, and said the diplomat was travelling from Badakhshan to Kunduz province when he was attacked.
No one else was injured, said Hussaini, who would not comment on the extent of envoy’s injuries.
Sources from the Tajikistan embassy in Kabul and the Taliban were not immediately available for comment.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban announced the start of their spring offensive on Monday.
