Traffic dept launches privilege number ownership service
The Traffic Department has launched the privilege number ownership service which will testify the ownership of the special number.
As part of this, the department will issue a privilege card to the person concerned with his name, personal number, privilege number and registration date.
The traffic department has urged the owners of privilege numbers to visit the privilege numbers section at the old Traffic Department building in Madina Khalifa North, to complete the registration procedures. “They should bring their ID cards and pay QR100 as registration fee,” a statement issued by the public relations department at the Ministry of Interior said.
By completing the procedures, the privilege number owners will have the right to transfer the ownership by filling up a special form available in the department.
The legal and administrative authority to keep or cancel the number plates will rest with the department concerned.
Except in the case of ownership transfer by way of inheritance, the applicant should pay a specific percentage of the sale or the base price, whichever is greater.
In case the owner dies without leaving an heir, the ownership will lie with the State, the statement added.

Camels in Qatar ‘not infected with any disease’
A section of camel breeders has denied that there is a link between camels and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (Mers-CoV), local daily Al Arab has reported.
According to breeders interviewed by the daily, the camels are healthy and have not been infected with any disease.
One of them said camels in Qatar are safe and their milk and meat are consumed without any fear of disease. Rather, the threat comes from camels brought from abroad, he claimed.
Veterinary doctor Mohamed al-Sheikh explained that transmission of the disease from camels to human beings cannot take place directly due to a difference in blood type, according to the report. Meanwhile, the WHO has observed that there is no need to stop the Haj pilgrimage, the report adds.
Niger applause for Qatar Charity’s support for poverty research
The University of Niger has praised Qatar Charity’s (QC) efforts in the fight against poverty.
The praise came in a letter from the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Niger Professor Adam Todo, who referred to research carried out by students supported by QC into the issue of poverty and food security in the country.
Todo expressed the desire of the college to continue this collaboration, saying that the results speak for themselves.
“The research presented by the students was done with a high degree of objectivity and accuracy and came about as a direct result of the facilities and care provided to them by the University and Qatar Charity,” Todo said.
“The results clearly showed the value of the solutions provided by Qatar Charity to tackle poverty and the problems of food security in rural areas,” Todo continued.
Todo praised the research conducted by the students in the College of Agriculture and Farming in order to obtain their degree, which he said was facilitated by the intervention of QC and their interest in poverty and food security.
The students studied QC interventions in the agriculture sector in Niger, which came after the signing of an agreement between QC Niger and the College of Agriculture and Farming, in order to understand and evaluate the impact of the interventions.
The students completed the research in the academic year 2012/2013.
QC has implemented a number of projects in Niger recently.

The project has been initiated under the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. Its aim is to support Qatari men and women by offering wedding halls free of charge, the report said.
International Review of Law’s
issue on domestic violence
The International Review of Law has published a special issue on domestic violence with articles ranging from intra-family violence and acid violence to empirical research on unreported cases in Nigeria and domestic violence policy reform in Macedonia.
All articles are featured on QScience.com, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals’ digital publishing portal for academic research.
The International Review of Law is a peer-reviewed international law journal that articulates contemporary legal discourse in all fields of law. All content in the journal is “open access”, which means articles are free to read and download from the web and authors retain full copyright of their works.
This special issue tackles an important topic that continues to demand the attention of the international community. Reported incidents of domestic violence usually involve abuse perpetrated by men against women and its occurrence cuts across all socio-economic groups, cultures, religions, ages and geographic locales.
Countries worldwide have enacted legislation and adopted public policies to prevent domestic violence in order to protect those who are subjected to abuse and hold abusers accountable. Despite progress in these areas, challenges remain.
The articles focus on the various manifestations of domestic violence across the globe. It is hoped that the articles in this special issue will prompt continued dialogue on effective legal reform efforts to stop domestic violence.
Professor Mary Pat Treuthart, guest editor of the special issue, said: “The special issue on domestic violence features thought-provoking, original articles by legal scholars and commentators from across the globe.”
Dr Christopher Leonard, editorial director of QScience, said: “We are very proud of the editorial board and in particular the guest editor in tackling this difficult subject and shedding light on how legal frameworks support victims of domestic violence, as well as punishing the perpetrators.”
QScience.com has also introduced an online commenting system linked to readers’ social media accounts, which allows for direct communication with the author and other readers.
Enterprise Qatar to organise ‘Khutwa’ workshop for retirees
Small and medium enterprises development company, Enterprise Qatar, is set to host its first “Khutwa” workshop from May 11 to 15 to improve the standard of living of Qatari retirees.
The workshop is being organised in co-operation with the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (GRSIA). Targeting both males and females, Khutwa will provide individuals with the necessary skills and training to convert their ideas and aspirations into productive small-and
medium-sized businesses.
Commenting on this valuable initiative, Ibrahim al-Mannai, director of learning and development at Enterprise Qatar, said the workshop will consist of two phases.
“Through the entrepreneurship programme, the first phase will allow us to guide participants through several critical development stages that are essential to starting a successful enterprise. This includes selecting a winning business idea, planning strategically, marketing, managing, as well as undertaking feasibility studies and auditing.
“The second stage will offer insights into the establishment of SMEs, in addition to providing entrepreneurial retirees with both support and direction that involve reviewing and helping to analyse their financial statements during the
first year.”
The project creates an ideal environment for new businesses to prosper by providing retirees with a supportive network of experts who are on hand to share crucial organisational and administrative knowledge.
Khalifa al-Khulaifi, director of the retirement department at the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority, praised Enterprise Qatar’s initiative to co-operate with the Authority in order to provide retirees with training and skills to launch their own SMEs. Registration is open on the Authority’s website or through social media sites.
