Crackdown on street vendors in Al Khor industrial area

The Al Khor and Al Zakhira Municipality has held inspection campaigns against street vendors in the Al Khor industrial area, local Arabic daily Al Arab has reported. The criminal investigation section in the Al Shamal Security Department and Al Fazaa (Rescue Police) also participated in the campaigns, which led to the capture of a number of vendors. These vendors usually sit near the road and sell food materials, which are often of poor quality, as well as products like siwaika. Eight seizure records were issued and the items were confiscated.

The activities of illegal street vendors pose a threat to the health and safety of consumers as the products sold by them are not subjected to examination by the authorities concerned, in order to determine if they are suitable for human consumption, the report said.
