HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari yesterday opened an exhibition of photographs by Ahmed Youssuf al-Khulaifi. |
The exhibition is organised by the Qatar Photographic Society.
The Minister said in a statement that the exhibition, which will continue until the end of May, presents images depicting Qatar’s originality, traditions, history and traditional methods of hunting, the sport of the forefathers.
He said that each image offers a glimpse and a moment experienced by the hunter while hunting, documenting this historical sport.
Dr Al-Kuwari expressed his admiration at the high level reached by the art of photography in Qatar which has kept pace with the development taking place in the country and reflected Qatar’s picturesque nature.
He hailed artist Ahmed al-Khulaifi and the Qatar Photographic Society for the role they play in upgrading this fine artistic field.
The exhibition displays 46 photographs covering many aspects of hunting, focussing on the methods adopted by the forefathers and the effort and suffering they went through.
Qatar to attend GCC justice undersecretaries’ meeting

Qatar will Participate in the 5th annual meeting of the Justice Undersecretaries in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), tomorrow in Saudi Arabia. |
Qatar’s delegation to the meeting will be headed by HE the Justice Undersecretary Sultan bin Abdullah al-Suwaidi.
The meeting will discuss topics related to co-operation among GCC member states in the judicial sector, including reports of the meetings of the departments of international co-operation and international relations in the member states’ ministries of justice.
The justice undersecretary left Doha yesterday to Saudi Arabia. He was seen off by a number of the ministry’s senior officials.
Foreign Minister meets African Union official
The Foreign Minister HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah yesterday met with the visiting Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Ambassador Smail Chergui.
During the meeting, they discussed a number of topics of common interest and exchanged views on issues of peace and security in the region.
Azeri ambassador calls on Deputy Speaker
The Advisory Council’s Deputy Speaker HE Issa bin Rubia al-Kuwari yesterday met with the Azeri ambassador in Doha Tawfiq Abdullah-Yiev, who handed him an invitation to attend celebrations marking Azerbaijan National Day.
During the meeting they discussed parliamentary relations between the two countries and ways to promote them.
Chief of Staff, British brigadier hold talks
HE the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Major General (Pilot) Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim yesterday met with Commander of Britain’s 51st Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Paul Harkness.
Talks during the meeting dealt with matters of mutual concern especially in military affairs. The meeting was attended by a number of senior armed forces officers.
Ministers discuss bilateral relations
The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs HE Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi yesterday met with the Tunisian Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Hafez Amory.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them as well as several issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials from both sides.
Call to halt practice of villa partitioning
A number of citizens have urged the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to take action against the practice of partitioning private villas and their conversion into smaller flats and units, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported. They said this constituted a violation of the law and could pose a threat to the safety of buildings and individuals, in addition to distorting the real estate landscape, the report said. The citizens explained that the partitioning of a villa and its subsequent use by a large number of people puts an additional burden on the infrastructure and services such as water, electricity and sanitary systems. Referring to the reasons behind the practice, a citizen said high rents force many families to live in small portions of villas, as these are considered affordable, as well as to serve the purpose of some to maximise earnings from a villa by partitioning it.
Issuing of addresses for buildings ‘completed’
The Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS) of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has announced completion of the process of issuing addresses and installing “my address” plates on all 110,000 buildings across the State, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The CGIS has also said the details of newly-constructed buildings will be added to the digital database and their address plates will be installed accordingly.The numbering and installation process is carried out in co-ordination with various agencies and companies and decided by a committee comprising representatives of these entities, the CGIS explained in the report. The new plates display building numbers along with zone and street numbers — information that is required by various utility companies.
