Ooredoo and Qatar Charity (QC) have signed a sponsorship agreement for the second edition of the “Competitors” campaign.
The campaign is aimed at engaging Qatari society in humanitarian work, investing the energies of young people and mobilising support for charitable projects.
The agreement was signed by Qatar Charity chief executive Yousef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari and Ooredoo’s head of New Business Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al-Thani.
Present at the signing ceremony were Jazeera Children’s Channels deputy director Saad Hodaifi, Qatar Stars League director of corporate communications Hassan bin Rabia al-Kuwari, participants in the “Competitors 2” campaign, and a number of Qatar Charity officials and ambassadors.
A donation of QR200,000 from the Qatar Stars League was presented to Qatar Charity during the ceremony, to be used for the benefit of Syrian refugees.
The donation was presented to Qatar Charity by Qatar Stars League’s Hassan bin Rabia al-Kuwari.
Qatar Charity chief executive Yousef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari said: “The second edition of the ‘Competitors’ campaign, which was released a few days ago, came after the success of the first version of the campaign … raising awareness of the importance of serving the community and external communities as required.”
He further pointed out: “The second edition of the ‘Competitors’ has developed both in terms of performance and assessment based on the experience of the first version.”
Al-Kuwari said that the most important characteristic of the second version of the campaign is to increase the number of participants, which has reached 30 contestants, compared to 15 participants last year.
A recent field visit allowed Qatar Charity personnel to examine first-hand the situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan, and to provide them with aid, in a number of locations including the Zaatari camp, which houses many wounded people and orphans.
Al-Kuwari praised the “Competitors” team which mobilises support for projects for the relief of the Syrian people, at home or as refugees in neighbouring countries, with donations reaching almost QR1.5mn in just a few days.
He said that a special team will oversee the implementation of field projects that will be funded by them in the coming period.
Al-Kuwari thanked all those who had supported the initiative, in particular the official sponsor of the campaign, Ooredoo, the Qatar Stars League for its donation for the benefit of Syrian refugees, and members of the “Competitors 2” team who recently returned from the field visit to Jordan.
“Ooredoo supports the ‘Competitors’ initiative for the second year … within the framework of its interest in social responsibility, working in the service of the Qatari community and supporting voluntary initiatives that positively engage the young, reflecting a positive image of the people of Qatar,” said Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al-Thani.
Qatar Charity has decided to name its planned orphan training centre “Jeem”, after “Jeem channel”, in recognition of the efforts by the Aljazeera Children’s Channels.
The Aljazeera Children’s Channels allocated live broadcast time over three days at the beginning of April to highlight the plight of orphans across the world and to raise awareness of the “Rofaqaa” initiative for the welfare of orphans, which raised around QR 18.5mn.
