The World Economic Forum (WEF), in partnership with the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) and Sesri - Social and Economic Survey Research Institute of Qatar University, has announced the launching of the Executive Opinion Survey 2014 in Qatar.

The Executive Opinion Survey, “The voice of the business community”, is a major component of The Global Competitiveness Report and provides the key ingredient that turns the report into a “representative annual measure of a nation’s economic environment and its ability to achieve sustained growth”.

The survey gathers valuable information on a broad range of variables for which hard data sources are scarce or nonexistent. High-level business executives in Qatar will be surveyed to capture their opinion on the business environment in which they operate.

Qatar had led the Arabic world and the Middle Eastern countries to rank 13th on the Global Competitiveness Index that was declared in the WEF’s annual report for 2013.

Conveyed by last year’s report, Qatar’s strong competitiveness rests on solid foundations consisting of a high-quality institutional framework, stable macro-economical environment and an efficient goods market. The high growth combined with prudent governmental support to the financial sector contributed to maintaining a strong macro-economic and financial stability.

The Global Competitiveness Report is widely recognised as the world’s leading cross-country comparison of factors affecting economic competitiveness and growth.

The report details the country’s economic profile for each of the economies featured in the study, providing a comprehensive summary of the overall position in the index rankings as well as a guide to what are considered to be the most prominent competitive advantages to each while shedding light on the areas that need more development and support.

The rankings are based on a combination of publicly available hard data and the results of the Executive Opinion Survey, a comprehensive annual survey conducted by the World Economic Forum, together with its network of partner institutes in the countries covered by the report.

A sample of company executives in Qatar will be asked to complete the survey. The QBA and Sesri note that it is vitally important that each executive sampled completes the survey to ensure that Qatar has accurate and reliable data in the report.
