Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company is “bringing its flair, expertise and creativity” to Malaysia by embarking on the brand new development of a luxury beachside resort, located in the village of Chendering in the Sultanate of Terengganu.

The luxury spa and resort, managed by Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts, will consist of 210 rooms, 20 villas, 20 condominiums and nine luxury pavilions, in addition to swimming pools, conference facilities and development land across 180,420 sq m.

The exclusive development was launched at a stone-laying ceremony attended by Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu; Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Chief Minister of Terengganu and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Malaysia’s former prime minister.

Other distinguished guests attending the ceremony included Issa bin Mohamed al-Mannai, Qatar’s ambassador to Malaysia, Qatari Diar Group chief executive officer Khaled Mohamed al-Sayed and a senior delegation from Qatari Diar.

Construction on the resort has commenced and is expected to open in early 2016.

At the ceremony, al- Sayed said, “I am delighted to be here in Chendering to officially launch our new and exciting project. We are especially honoured to be joined by His Royal Highness Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu. This is a beautiful area of Malaysia and we look forward to opening this luxury resort in conjunction with Mövenpick in 2016.

“We are extremely excited by our second hotel development in Malaysia and look forward to exploring other opportunities throughout the country.”

Al-Mannai said, “The State of Qatar is honoured by the presence of Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Terengganu, Al-Wathiqu Billah Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah.

“This new development in Kuala Terengganu further strengthens the strong and friendly relationship between Malaysia and Qatar. Qatari Diar brings its famous flair and creativity to this luxury resort and I look forward to the opening and visiting this spectacular part of Malaysia again.” The project will create numerous jobs in Terengganu and will make great strides in supporting the regional and national tourism sector by attracting both domestic and international tourists. The hotel will also provide a luxury business base for the growing energy sector in the region.

Terengganu is situated in north-eastern Malaysia on the South China Sea. The state is also referred to in Arabic as Darul Iman meaning ‘Abode of Faith’.

Chendering is a small village, 6km outside the state capital Kuala Terengganu. The new resort will provide a luxury base for visitors to explore the world-renowned beaches, islands and spectacular countryside as well as to experience the hospitality and culture for which Terengganu is famous for.

The luxury resort and spa will be managed by Mövenpick, an international upscale hotel management company with more than 16,000 staff across 24 countries working in 80 hotels, resorts and Nile cruisers. The project is a 50:50 joint venture between Qatari Diar and Eclipse Portfolio.

The majority developer is Qatari Diar in partnership with Success Circle.

Qatari Diar is currently involved in some 49 landmark projects in 29 countries across the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.
