Qatar and Kenya signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding following a round of official talks chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the visiting Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Doha yesterday.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them. They also discussed issues of mutual concern.
At the talks, several Qatari ministers were present along with members of the official delegation accompanying the Kenyan president.
After the official talks, the Emir and the Kenyan president witnessed the signing of the following agreements and MoUs:
1. An agreement on economic, commercial and technical co-operation between the governments of Qatar and Kenya.
2. An agreement on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments between the two governments.
3. An agreement on co-operation in the legal field between the two governments.
4. An agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion on income tax.
The two sides also signed the following memoranda of understanding (MoU).
1. An MoU in the field of mining between Qatar Mining and Kenya’s ministry of mining.
2. An MoU between Qatar Chamber and Kenya’s National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
3. An MoU on the development of an electricity station in Kenya between Nebras Power and Kenya Electricity Generating Company.
The Emir then hosted a luncheon banquet in the honour of the Kenyan president and the accompanying delegation.
Earlier the Kenyan president was accorded an official reception upon arrival at the Emiri Diwan.
Later in the afternoon, President Uhuru Kenyatta left Doha concluding a state visit to Qatar.
The president and his accompanying delegation were seen off at Doha International Airport by HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari, Qatar’s Ambassador to Nairobi Ibrahim bin Mohamed Abdulrahman al-Abdullah, and the Kenyan Ambassador to Doha Galma Mukhe Boru.
