The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary closure of Al Rumeilah Street in both directions between the Al Rumeilah and Guest Palace roundabouts from tomorrow (April 12) until April 17.
The closure will take place to facilitate widening of the street to three lanes in each direction in addition to widening the Guest Palace roundabout to meet current traffic needs.
The authority has said that as part of the project, lampposts will be replaced and maintenance work will be done on the interlock on both sides of the road to organise pedestrian movement.
Travellers coming from Al Bidda Street towards the Guest Palace roundabout can head north towards Mohamed bin Thani Street, turn left at the Civil Defence roundabout and go left onto Onaiza Street.
Road users coming from Onaiza Street towards the Armeilla roundabout can head towards the Civil Defence roundabout and turn right onto Mohamed bin Thani Street to take a right towards Al Bidda.
This closure is part of a series of development projects undertaken by Ashghal to increase the capacity of roads and support traffic flow in the area. All road signs will be installed to direct road users to the alternative roads.
Ashghal has urged all road users to abide by speed limits and traffic signs to ensure their safety.
