Gas blast case in second circuit
The case about the Duhail gas explosion, which resulted in the death of 11 expatriates on February 27, has been referred to the second circuit of the Criminal Court though no dates for hearings have been set, local daily Arrayah has reported.
Attorney General HE Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri had earlier decided to refer the lawsuit to the competent Criminal Court after completion of the investigations.
A total of 35 persons, including a Qatari, were injured as well in the accident caused by a gas leak in Istanbul Restaurant, located in Q-Mart petrol station.
After an investigation, the Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the blast was caused by a leak from the restaurant’s pizza oven, as the gas inlet was inadvertently left open.
The restaurant, closed at the time of the blast, was filled with gas, which got ignited by a spark produced from the automatic operation of electrical devices, the daily added.
Yards achieve significant sales
The Al-Mazrouah Yard and the Al Khor-Al Dhakira Yard have achieved considerable sales since their launch, local daily Al Sharq has reported.
While the Al-Mazrouah fruits and vegetables yard is celebrating the completion of four months of operation this week, the Al Khor-Al Dhakira yard has been running for around three months, the report states.
The total sales registered at the two yards amounted to around 230,000 boxes (1,422 tonnes) of vegetables, around 641 tonnes of fresh fruits, 24 tonnes of fish, 509 cattle heads in addition to 33,000 domestic birds.
The two yards have also received around 159,000 buyers during this period and sales are steadily increasing in both places, according to the report.
The sale of fish has also increased at Al-Mazrouah Yard, especially in the last month. This, however, depends on supplies from fishermen whose catch is sometimes affected by unfavourable weather conditions, the report adds.
