Qatar is taking part in the 5th edition of Kuwait International Prize for Holy Qur’an memorisation and recitation.

The competition which opened on Monday, is being held under the patronage of the Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.

Contestant Abdulaziz Saeed Halwan represents Qatar at the competition in the full recitation of Qur’an category along with 107 others representing 57  countries.

Qatar had earlier participated in the 4th edition of the competition where its contestant Yusuf Asheer came in the second position among 83 contestants representing 50 Islamic countries. 

The opening ceremony of the competition, organised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, was held at the International Islamic Charity Organisation (IICO) theater. The opening speech was given by Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Nayif al-Ajmi, and Undersecretary of the Ministry and Chairman of the Prize’s supreme committee Dr Adel al-Falah.

A documentary showcasing the prize’s previous competitions and achievements of participants was screened during the ceremony.
