Akawi: High profile projects.
Drake & Scull Qatar (DSI Qatar), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Drake & Scull International, yesterday outlined its expansion plans and is aiming to consolidate its position in Qatar.
“Qatar is a dynamic market with total infrastructure spends expected to reach $24bn this year. We expect an influx of large-scale projects to be unveiled soon, keeping in mind the long-term national goals associated with the FIFA 2022 World Cup and the Qatar National Vision 2030,” Karem Akawi, area general manager, DSI Qatar, told the MEED conference.
DSI Qatar is currently delivering several prestigious projects in Qatar, including a large scale mixed-use real estate development, the MEP contract for Qatar Mall, a major residential project, and is also undertaking the design, build and installation of the district cooling plant, as well as the MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) works at the landmark Dohaland development.
The company has successfully delivered high profile key projects in Qatar in the past, such as the Four Seasons Hotel and the Qatar Foundation Student Centre.
“We are aiming to consolidate our position as a leader in the engineering and construction sector by winning projects in newer segments this year,” Akawi said.
The investment in capital expenditure projects in Qatar offers immense potential, especially for companies like DSI who specialises in a wide spectrum of services, including MEP services, EPC (engineering, procurement and contract) solutions, and water and power.
The hospitality sector is also making rapid strides, and several mega projects being in the pipeline for announcement by 2016, Akawi said.
