Germany claimed the top honours with 8.258 points on the second day of the Vaulting competition at CHI AL SHAQAB 2014 at the indoor Al Shaqab arena yesterday. There were spectacular freestyle displays from the Vaulting Squads and Pas de Deux teams to enthrall the audience.
The German Squad team VV Köln Dünnwald I remain at the top of the table, scoring 8.258, more than a point ahea of the runners up, Team Neuss Grimlinghausen, also of Germany.
Of competing at AL SHAQAB, squad team member Corinna Knauf said “The organisation is great and it’s really easy for us to compete. The buildings are amazing, they are very modern and impressive. It has been a wonderful experience so far and I am looking forward to four more days of exciting events.”
Although Vaulting features in prestigious CHI events, it’s not currently included as an Olympic sport. Corinna explained that coming to AL SHAQAB is great for raising the profile of the sport stating “It’s really important for us to be here to show what we can do.”
Fellow team member Torben Jacobs explained that he was pleased with the team’s performance; “It’s very good for us to be in the lead so early in the competition, especially when we are up against such strong competitors like Team Neuss”.
The excitement continues today with more individual and squad Vaulting events and the start of the Show Jumping competitions.
