Alpha Bangura and Solomon Bozeman scored 55 points among themselves to lift Al Sadd to a 88-84 win over El Jaish during their Qatar Cup basketball match at Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday. Jaish squandered a 78-72 lead going into the last five minutes of the game.
Bangura scored a match-high 28, which included 12 two-pointers and four free-throws, apart from 10 defensive rebounds. Solomon pitched in with 27, with Erfan Ali Saeed scoring 15 and Daoud Mousa scoring 13.
Shawn Taggart and Johnson Nathaniel led the Jaish campaign with 26 and 25 points respectively but eventually in vain.
Others two get into double digits for Jaish were Devan Deangelo Downey (12) and Dwayne Jones II (10)
Earlier in the day, Qatar Sports Club beat Al Arabi 68-58. Like Jaish, Arabi too had a half-time lead before it went the other way in the last five minutes of the match.
Melquan Bolding top-scored for Qatar SC with 18 points while Chauncey Leslie and Jama Abd al-Rahman scored 15 and 13 respectively. Gaston Moliva and Noel Gregory Felix scored 11 points each.
Olatokunbo Olukayode Ayeni’s 20-point effort for Arabi eventually fell on the losing side with William Earl Byrd scored 18 points.
